What is a high-temperature bearing?

High-temperature bearings are ball bearings specially designed to withstand high temperatures, generally between 180° C and 330°C. Standard bearings, on the other hand, can withstand temperatures of up to +120° C for open bearings and +80° C for sealed bearings.

High-temperature bearings are subjected to appropriate stabilization treatment, radial clearance, grease and sealing to withstand higher temperatures. This type of bearing is mainly used in the following applications:

  • Overhead conveyors
  • Industrial fans
  • Packaging machines
  • Steel industry
  • Ceramic industry
  • Paper industry
  • Furnaces

What are the different types of high-temperature bearings?

High-temperature bearings are standard 6000, 6200 and 6300 series bearings with specific features that enable them to withstand the thermal stresses of your various applications. Below are the different types of high-temperature bearings:

  • BHTS* 2RS C3 VT 180: these bearings are made of AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel, stabilized for temperatures from -30° C to +180° C. They feature C3 radial clearance, a 2RS seal in VITON vulcanized at 200°C, and are lubricated with a grease suitable for temperatures up to 200°C.
  • BHTS* 2RS C4 VT 200: these bearings are also in AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel, stabilized for temperatures from -30° C to +200° C. They feature a C4 radial clearance, a 2RS seal in VITON vulcanized at 200°C, and are lubricated with a grease suitable for temperatures up to 200°C.
  • BHTS* ZZ C4 200: AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel bearings stabilized for temperatures from -30° C to +200° C. They feature C4 radial clearance, ZZ sealing and are lubricated with grease suitable for temperatures up to 200°C.
  • BHTS* 2RS C4 VT 220: AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel bearings, stabilized for temperatures from -40° C to +220° C. They feature a C4 radial clearance, a 2RS seal in VITON vulcanized at 220°C, and PTFE lubrication suitable for temperatures up to 280°C.
  • BHTS* ZZ C4 220-250: these bearings are made from AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel, stabilized for temperatures from -40° C to +250° C. They feature C4 radial clearance, ZZ sealing and PTFE lubrication for temperatures up to 280°C.
  • BHTS* 2RS VT 250-280: these bearings are made of AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel, stabilized for temperatures from -40° C to +250° C. They are indicated as having a double positive temperature, as the bearing itself can withstand 280°, but the VITON seals are less effective above 250°. They feature 4xC5 radial clearance, 2RS sealing and PTFE lubrication for temperatures up to 280°C.
  • BHTS* ZZ 280: these bearings are made of AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel, stabilized for temperatures from -40° C to +280° C. All steel parts have a manganese phosphate treatment. They feature 4xC5 radial clearance, ZZ sealing and PTFE-based lubrication for temperatures up to 280°C.
  • HT ZZ 330: AISI 52100 (Chrome) steel bearings with manganese phosphate treatment. They are stabilized for temperatures from -20° C to +330° C. They feature 4xC5 radial clearance, ZZ sealing and are lubricated with molybdenum disulfide grease. These bearings require additional high-temperature oil lubrication.
  • BHTS* 330: these bearings are made of AISI 52100 (chromium) steel with a manganese phosphate treatment. They are stabilized for temperatures from -20° C to +330° C. They are open, with 4xC5 radial clearance. They are lubricated with molybdenum disulfide grease. These bearings require additional high-temperature oil lubrication.

* BHTS : BECO HIGHT TEMPERATURE

How to choose a high-temperature bearing ?

When selecting a high-temperature bearing, many factors need to be taken into account. The bearing's operating temperature is an important factor, as are its dimensions. It's also important to take into account the bearing's radial clearance, as well as the desired sealing or lubricants required to ensure proper operation. If you're looking for a 6000, 6200 or 6300 series bearing with a specific temperature capacity and it's not on the site, please contact us so we can check availability with our manufacturers.
